The Liidlii Kue First Nation is collecting data, such as traditional land use and occupancy and natural resources inventory, to develop an integrated land-use plan and regulatory institution that would protect lands essential for traditional harvesting, cultural preservation and ecological integrity, while identifying lands suitable for a diverse set of economic development opportunities that might include tourism, forestry, mining and oil and gas extraction. This project will conduct a density analysis of Liidlii Kue First Nation’s traditional land use and occupancy data, identify ecological constraints and development opportunities, and consult with extended families and the community as a whole to identify lands that should be withdrawn and lands that may be developed.
