Birchtown

The Black Loyalist Heritage Society of Birchtown, Nova Scotia is mandated to discover, interpret, protect and promote the unique heritage of its community and the Black Loyalists. This mandate covers land resources and vital heritage sites that provide a sense of 'place' for the descendents of Black Loyalists. In the context of a training program, the Society will incorporate a genealogical database with locational data dealing with heritage sites, historical and present day land packages. The resultant combined database will allow much richer opportunities for archaeological research and information products. As well the training component will provide the Society with the skilled workers necessary for the maintenance and enhancement of the database. For over a decade, the Society has worked to develop the culture-based tourism industry of the region. Site tours and exhibits are primary attractions for visitors. This project will also develop products to support site tours and as promotional products, available at the museum, the research office and on a web site.
