Health Surveillance Map Interface

This project will advance Health Canada's new national network for health surveillance, a partnership involving the provincial/territorial public health and surveillance community. Specifically, this project will enable the mapping component of Epi Info, an internationally proven software program, to access Health Canada's spatial data server. The resulting application will be available to more than 220 health care clinics and decision-makers across Canada to help them collect, manage and analyze epidemiological and public health surveillance data. Users will be able to connect to Health Canada's spatial data warehouse and download spatial data to incorporate into their own local data-something they cannot currently do. This application will be an important component in planning health studies and programs and will contribute to local community-outreach programs. As well, by expanding health care's analytical tools to include spatial analysis, this project will make it more feasible for the health community to conduct evidence-based assessments that track new trends, diseases and health threats. All Canadians stand to benefit from more informed policy decisions that reflect emerging trends and challenges.
